College and Career Readiness

According to the California Department of Education, the 2022-23 Four-Year Adjusted Cohort shows an 83.6% graduation rate in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. This graduation rate is in comparison to 89.4% in Contra Costa County and 89.1% statewide. Of the 83.6% WCCUSD high school graduates, only 47.3% met the UC/ CSU A-G Requirements.

I am running for County Board of Education, firmly believing that our schools should equip our students for their future. I will advocate to ensure we fulfill our obligation to prepare our students for success in college or the workforce. I am committed to advocating for higher graduation standards and ensuring students have the necessary support to meet those standards.

I will advocate for making A-G requirements part of our schools' graduation requirements and work to expand our Career Technical Education programs. The County Office Of Education offers support through the Regional Occupational Program (ROP), the Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG), and the K12 Strong Workforce Program (K12SWP). Combined with these programs, I plan on working with business and community leaders to build on the County and WCCUSD mentorship programs. Working with local trades and hosting more college and career fairs can expose our students to more options.

With this multi-faceted approach, we can ensure our students are ready and qualified for any future they choose.
